Michelle Shannon, M.A., LPC, MedFT

Hi, I am Michelle Shannon, M.A., LPC, MedFT. I am licensed in the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor and am a certified Medical Family Therapist. I have a broad range of experience working with a diverse population of clients, across a variety of goals.

Inner-Rhythm Counseling and Consulting, PLLC was created with the mission to focus on several unique populations of clients. These include individuals living with medical and health challenges, along with the medical professionals, health team members, and support staff for those patients, as well as the individuals who are the caretakers, friends, and family members of these medical patients.

Overall, I feel these populations are best served through the biopsychosocial and spiritual lens, in an integrated, evidence-based, whole-person approach to meet their unique needs and goals. I encourage and welcome the opportunity to collaborate with my client’s network of healthcare providers and complementary and alternative support teams when applicable, as well as their family members and caretakers.

Philosophy

I believe that we need the ups and downs of life, for it is these events that give depth to our lives. Like the beat of our hearts, there is an ideal healthy rhythm. However, as life unfolds, our unique rhythms can become unbalanced sometimes. The good news is that you can cultivate the emotional flexibility to not only survive but thrive. You can become empowered to restore your own balance. It may require some hard work, but having a happy life is worth it!

Counseling can help with identifying thoughts and behaviors that may not be serving you well. In addition, it can replace them with positive productive ones, guide your focus to your strengths, process difficult emotions, and solve your problems so you may move forward in life.

The inevitable ups and downs in life, literally and figuratively, give meaning to life. Without them, we are not truly living.

Treatment Approach

My counseling approach is compassionate, empathetic, and from a whole person perspective, and my style is active and directive. The treatment methodologies I work from are integrated and uniquely tailored to meet the needs and goals of each individual client. These often include a combination of ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Family Systems, Gottman Method, Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused.
